Matt’s reputation as a results-driven attorney is backed by a long list of representative cases, where he has consistently achieved favorable outcomes:
Successfully represented hundreds of workers’ compensation claimants in obtaining workers’ compensation benefits.
Obtained substantial verdict on behalf of subcontractor against general contractor for unpaid invoices under Alabama’s “Little Miller Act,” on a $100 million construction project. The judgment and attorneys’ fees were ultimately affirmed by the Alabama Supreme Court.
Obtained defense verdict on behalf of a sawmill operator whose ex-employee sued for racial discrimination.
Successfully represented individual insured in declaratory judgment action filed by insured’s own insurance company asking the court to declare that insured did not have coverage for an automobile accident in which other driver had died (and had sued insured for wrongful death). The court declared coverage existed and ordered the insurance company to defend and indemnify the insured.
Successfully defended a quarry operator from a claim by the nearby landowner that the quarry was discharging excess water onto its property, wherein the jury returned a verdict for a fraction of what the Plaintiff was seeking.
Successfully defended an insurance company against the insured’s claims of Breach of Contract and Bad Faith Failure to Pay wherein the insurance company had denied coverage for a house fire.
Successfully defended a temporary employment agency against OSHA claims that the agency failed to adequately train its employees.
Successfully represented a powerline operator in condemnation proceedings wherein the jury ultimately determined that the claimant’s property was valued at less than the powerline operator had previously offered.
